Sri Lanka seal an easy win over Irish team- Sri Lankan cricket team won their first ODI match played against Ireland on Thursday, 16 June 2016. Irish team, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first and didn’t stop the contenders from setting up huge score. They even failed to chase the magnificent target set by the opponents and with the hindrance of rainfall, they had to succumb to the ICC WC 2011 runner ups who won the competition by D/L method.

Wicket keeper Dinesh Chandimal received ‘Man of the Match’ title for his awesome contribution in building such an affluent score for the opposite team. His mesmerizing three digit runs not only impressed his fans but also played a major role in cementing the team’s inning. His other mates too played pivotal innings but this man, who scored hundred, was awarded with the title.

Ireland invited the foes for batting as they won the toss and elected to field first. Sri Lankan opening player gave a good start to the game but didn’t manage to play bigger innings. Later come Mendis, Chandimal and skipper Mathews, who aggressed hard and didn’t let the rivals catch their wickets. The trio played excellent innings which braced the foundation of score of the team. Immense efforts ended up with a good three digit score of 303 runs.

Irish batsmen then entered the ground with firm determination of debellating the adversaries. Opener batsman opened up a brilliant attack over the Sri Lankan team and started excursing towards their destination by reacting to the bowlers with same intensity. Captain William Porterfield added much needed 73 runs to the team’s score.

Kevin O’Brien too outstandingly batted against the competitors and contributed with 64 runs. But the obstruction by rain and poor performance from men who batted next enfeebled the energetic approach towards victory. Spinners and pacers took advantage of this situation and damaged the batsmen in lower line up. It showered again when the match entered in an interesting mode and hampered the game. Thus, Sri Lanka won by D/L method by 76 runs.
