Rio Olympics 2016: AITA pairs Leander Paes with Rohan Bopanna- Now it seems that all have ended very well. But all’s not well. For the close to 30 minutes on Saturday, All India Tennis Association (AITA) the president Anil Khanna painstakingly has explained that the mistrust between the country’s leading tennis players wasn’t that deep as before, and that Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes were the India’s best bet for a medal at the Rio Olympics. The another day, even Paes said that so. But Bopanna differed that.

Bopanna and the World no. 1 Sania Mirza were picked up for the mixed doubles while Sania will partner the youngster Prarthana Thombare, she is India’s second highest ranked player at 205, in the women’s doubles. Anyway though Rohan Bopanna said he would always “respect AITA’s decision” he also added that he is not compatible with the player Paes’ style of play and they were not a good combination together.

The AITA tournament named the men’s doubles team for the Olympics in which the one player feels that they are not good enough to return with a medal. Now Bopanna was quick to release a statement in which he has reluctantly accepted AITA’s decision but has asserted that his and Leander’s style of playing is ‘neither compatible and nor complementary’. As Bopanna has said he will be playing for respect AITA’s decision but actually he is not compatible to play with the paes’.

In that case, the ranking of the players in the doubles tournament is far less important than what he brings to have the partnership. He have much admiration for Leander Paes and to his many achievements, but unfortunately we have not been able to put together any of a good combination despite our best efforts and I do not believe that our style of thier plays are either compatible or complementary nor interesting. Considering that this is a team event where two individuals need to gel together to do well, never the less the regardless of individual achievements, it is the team and the combination that matters the both, he added.
