US Open 2016: Djokovic into last four after Tsonga injury retirement- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga suffered a knee injury while trailing 6-3 6-2 in the 3rd set. The incident forced the player to quit from the US Open quarters. Rather a great success for Novak Djokovic beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Djokovic’s mental and physical health no more is a questioning topic as he has successfully made it through the quarter-final win. It’s the tenth consecutive year of the World No 1 to crack the semi-finals in the US Open.
“I’m in the semi-finals, so that’s what matters for me the most, to be able to play as well as I did in the fourth round and today in the quarter-finals for at least a couple of sets. I thought that I came out with the right intensity. The quality of my game and level of performance has raised in the last couple of days, which obviously encourages me prior to the last four.” Djokovic stated. “I put myself in a position again to be one match away from the finals. As the tournament progresses, I feel like I’m getting better. Of course, this grand slam is unique for me. I never experienced something like this to have three retirements on the road to the semi-finals.” he continued.
The first serve being rather strong and to the mark by Tsonga was accurate. In the 6th game of the opener when he commenced with consecutive double faults it did not prove to be as beneficial. He was broken at last.
Tsonga said “It’s something I had already in the past, so I know exactly what’s happened. I knew it was over for me straightaway, because when I have my knee, of course, it’s already tough to play against one of the best tennis players. But when I don’t have my knee, I have no chance to come back from two sets to love. So for me, it’s important to save what I can save.”
A glad moment for Djokovic as to appear into the last four while a sad incident for Tsonga being retired due to the knee injury.
