Indian hockey team beat Argentina 2-1: India outplayed Argentina in the first three quarters but were tested in the fourth quarter before they registered a 2-1 win in the hockey Group B Rio 2016 Olympics contest.
The PR Sreejesh-led unit did well in the first quarter and converted the second penalty corner which came their way.
India’s men’s hockey team presented an extremely improved game against Argentina and maintained the lead got in the first quarter of the match. Chinglensana (8th minute) and Kothajit Khadangbam (35th) were the scorers for India. Gonzalo Peillat (49th) reduced the margin for Argentina at Olympic Hockey Stadium. It is India’s second win in three Pool B matches, after beating Ireland 3-2 and getting beaten by Germany 1-2.
The last quarter saw both teams pressing hard with long balls but this time, Argentina proved superior and scored a goal in the last 10 minutes of the game.
The Indians, who had suffered a 2:1 loss to Germany on Monday after the winning team went ahead in the dying moments of the game, yielded a solitary goal with about 11 minutes to the whistle.
India now face Netherlands in the next game.
