Most of the IPL franchises have foreign support staff in their roster and Sourav Ganguly, India's coaching directorin-waiting suggested in the IPL governing council meeting on Monday that the trend should change.
Recruit more Indian support staff: Ganguly
The former Indian captain said in the meeting that it would be great if the franchises look to recruit more Indians. It would give the Indian coaches, physios and trainers more exposure to top-flight cricket and that was the point Ganguly stressed on. "It was a good point made by Ganguly and was appreciated by most of the members," an official present in the meeting told TOI.
Ravi Shastri, India's Team Director during the World Cup, wasn't opposed to the idea, but he said that it should be left to the franchises to take a final call.Shastri said that it would proba bly not be right to impose a decision about the support staff on the franchises. He felt that the franchises have their business interest and they should be allowed to take a call on whom they want to recruit, the source added. Another member proposed that it could be put in the IPL guidelines which would be sent to the franchises, but a final decision on the issue hasn't been taken.
