Yasir Shah replaces Anderson to become No.1 bowler in Test format- Wrist spinner Yasir Shah became the #1 ranked bowler in the world after he bowled Pakistan to victory over England in the first Test at Lord’s on Sunday by a huge margin of 75 runs. Shah claimed a record 10 wickets in against England, has beaten all top test bowlers to get ranked #1 in the world in Test Cricket. With Sunday’s memorable win, Yasir replaced England pace bowler James Anderson at the first spot in the longest format of the game. Yasir’s magic figures of 29-6-72-6 and 31-9-69-4 in the opening Test against England have given Pakistan a huge advantage for the remaining 3 matches.
Yasir made his debut, not very long ago, in 2014 Pakistan vs Australia in October 2014, which was held in UAE. Sunday’s rocking performance by Yasir was just in his 13th match. He has played 15 ODIs and 2 T20s for Pakistan as of yet. The Lord’s Test marked the first time for him to have taken 10 wickets in a Test.
Another feather to Pakistan’s surge in international test cricket was also added on Sunday when its middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq achieved a career-high ranking in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen.
According to the latest ICC sources, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is ranked #2 with 871 ranking points. Yasir has ascended to a whopping 878 ranking points after the end of the first England versus Pakistan Test clash in the 4-test series.
England’s star pacers Anderson and Stuart Broad occupy the third and the fourth spot respectively.
Ashwin is not the only Indian in the top 10. Ravindra Jadeja is ranked #6 in the with 789 ranking points.
