Pay hike for New Zealand women- The top female players of New Zealand’s Women Cricket Team are supposed to get a hike in their payments. It may be even doubled for some of the best players, although the best-paid players would still be earning even less than half as much as the lowest-paid players of New Zealand’s Men Cricket Team. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) made this announcement on Monday, August 15.
An agreement has been set up between the NZC and the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association. It brought the announcement that NZC would offer top-15 female players of the team a payment ranging from $20,000 to $34,000. Under the previous agreement, the payment ranged between $10,000 and $12,000. It can be easily noticed that the payments would be doubled and in some cases, even be tripled. This is an important event in the history of NZC as the women team is going to get such a high pay hike. When the match fees for International Cricket Council (ICC) are added, up to $400 for One-Day Internationals, some top female players would now be earning even more than $40,000 per year, excluding prize-money.
New Zealand’s male players receive payments between $83,000 and $200,000 per year. Although even after the price hike, women players would not be receiving this much amount but still, there is advancement. The success of New Zealand Women’s players and the current ranking (third place) of New Zealand among the world’s top-10 women’s teams would have contributed to the decision of price hike.
“The increases reflect NZC’s commitment to ‘inclusivity and diversity’.” the Chief executive David White said.
Heath Mills, the chief executive of the Cricket Players Association, said the increase was a “big step forward” and the Players Association hoped that would extend to the entire women’s side in the coming years.
It is a great step taken and it would encourage the women’s team!
