Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera is back to Sri Lankan squad as a replaement for injured SL fast bowler Dhammika Prasad. Dhammika Prasad suffered shoulder injury before 1st Test match against England which ruled him out of the series. SL Cricket board quoted that Kusal will head to England as soon as the visa formalities are completed.
Dhammika Prasad, an impressive talent missed the playing 11 due to shoulder injury in first test. He was called back to Sri Lanka for further treatment so Jayasuriya, the chief selector of Sri Lankan Cricket Board announced Kusal as the replacement of injured Prasad. While announcing, Jayasuriya mentioned that team had immense talent and bowling options in squad and so wicketkeeper-batsman was opted.
Kusal Perera often compared with legend Sanath Jayasuriya last played a test for his national side in Aug- Sept 2015 against India. He was suspended by ICC for testing positive for banned substance. So he missed Sri Lanka’s NZ tour, T20 series against India, Asia Cup and more importantly World T20. But ICC withdrew all the charges over Kusal. So he is eligible to be back at international level.
England smashed Sri Lanka in first test at Leeds by an innings and 88 runs. It is unlikely that Kusal will be unavailable for Second Test which begins on 27th May. But his presence can be expected for Lords Test which is scheduled on 9th June.
