Ireland required a stable commencement to make up their position but failed to do so. Though Kevin O’Brien and Greg Thompson did their level best scoring 32 off 24 and 44 off 32 respectively. But they ended up being bowled out for 129. It seemed as Ireland is gaining good score and their position back when O’Brien was dismissed in the 13th over.

Hong Kong started well by Nizakat’s appreciable performance in 41-run stand in the first wicket, whereas, Aziz Khan found it a bit difficult to score. Aziz not being too fast but steady in making scores got dismissed at once. Post that Nizakat and Hayat summed up fifty six runs in the next seven overs and almost brought back the position well. Ehsan Khan- one of the new player’s introduced by Hong Kong scored 29 not out off 22, making it rather easy for Hong Kong. This win of Hong Kong against Ireland was 2nd one in T20I’s. Shahid Wasif making his debut in the Hong Kong squad.

Ireland equally sharing wickets between- Mulder, Andy McBrine, Craig Young and Kevin O’Brien.

“We wanted to bring some freshness to the squad,” Alan Lewis, Ireland’s chairman of selectors stated. “Left-arm quicks have been hugely successful in T20s and Josh’s introduction will drive his career forward, we hope. He bowls with pace and is an excellent athlete. Lorcan’s ability to score all around the ground with his 360-degree game – as witnessed at the U19 World Cup – coupled with his wicket keeping gives us excellent balance.”he continued.

The 2nd and final match in the series will happen at the same venue on Tuesday.
