The defending champions Mumbai Indians are eliminated from Indian Premier League 2016. The elimination occurred after Gujarat Lions defeated MI by 6 wickets and 14 balls to spare. It was all Gujarat Lions batsman show who snatched the win from MI bowlers.
Winning the toss Suresh Raina opted to field first and restricted Mumbai Indians to 172. Nitish Rana was man for Mumbai who scored 70 from 36 balls which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler also contributed with odd 30’s. From GL’s bowling Praveen Kumar, Dhaval Kulkarni, Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith picked two wickets each. Out of the lot Bravo and Kumar were economical.
Chasing 173 was tough task and it did not started well for Gujarat Lions either. Team lost Aaron Finch on 2nd ball of innings with no score on board. But a blasting partnership from skipper Raina and McCullum allowed the Lions to snatch victory. The duo added 96 from 54 balls which brought run rate under control. Dwayne Smith and Jadeja finished the game for Lions after Raina, McCullum and Dinesh Karthik departed in quick succession.
