Farveez Maharoof Returns to SL Squad For England & Ireland Tour 2016- The Sri Lankan all rounder Farveez Maharoof inched closer to a return to international cricket on Wednesday after being called to the squad for one-day match series against England and Ireland. Now Farveez Maharoof has been picked for Sri Lanka’s ODI series in Ireland and England later this month. Pushing age 32, Maharoof last played an international match in March 2012.
Maharoof and other four players which are allrounder like Danushka Gunathilaka, legspinner Seekkuge Prasanna, offspinner Suraj Randiv and good batsman Upul Tharanga now will fly to the UK to join the current Sri Lankan squad on tour. Some Test specialists are now expected to return to Sri Lanka back, but the selectors have not yet told the team which players will depart. Sri Lanka are set to play in Ireland on June 16 and 18, before the five-match series against England starts from June 21.
Now Sri Lanka will be without spinner that is Rangana Herath and also fast bowlers Dhammika Prasad and Dushmantha Chameera. While Herath has announced his retirement from the limited-overs cricket in April, both Prasad and Chameera were ruled out of the tour due to injuries. Prasad was suffering from a shoulder injury in the lead-up to the first Test against England at Headingley, and Chameera had returned home after playing only an one Test due to a stress fracture on his lower back.
Maharoof was the leading of the wicket-taker in Sri Lanka’s List A championship, the Premier Limited Over Tournament. He took around 16 wickets in five matches with an average of 6.31. He also scored 77 runs, playing for Nondescripts Cricket Club.
Maharoof, Know for his swing bolwing played his last Test match against England at Lord’s in June, 2011. Overall, he has played 22 Tests and 104 ODIs, taking 25 and 133, wickets, respectively.SLC did not specify cricketers who would return home after the Test series.
