ENG vs SL 3rd Test 2016: England 279/6 Day 1; Bairstow 107 not out- The host England team set off an impressive start at the Third and final Test Match on Lords thereby winning the toss and opted to bat first. The team is heading the series winning the last two Tests and now looking comfortable and positive for the final encounter. England Team was able to put on the decent score on the board after a shaky start at the end of Day 1.

The day began in favor of Sri Lankas bowling attack where England team stumbled on 84 for four in the morning. Alex Hales and Alastair Cook opened the innings when the duo constituted 14(23) and 17(31) putting on a steady score of 51/0 in 14 over’s before drinks .But soon after Rangana Herath break open the partnership picking up the wicket of set batsman Alex hales on 18 runs. Nick Compton came into crease with the loss of hales but soon got back into pavilion for duck by Lakmal’s perfect delivery.
Lakmal again struck hard picking up consecutive wicket of Joe Root 2(3).At the post lunch session England were 74/3 with James Vince 3(9) and Alaistar Cook 48(87) on crease. Alaister Cook looked really composed and firm on his wicket completing his half century in 99 balls. But the other side was unable to support the batsman and wickets were falling at regular interval. James Vince was another batsman who departed early at the end of 30 over’s.

England was in desperate situation with the fall of Vince and Jonny Bairstow came in next to bat for England. He began with a positive start for England and got 19 (18) where he was dropped by Eranga. This dropped catch changed the conditions for England team and the partnership set a formidable score of 143/4 at the end of 50 over’s. Jonny Bairstow played a brilliant not out innings of 107 runs on its first day which led the team to reach 279 runs at the end of the day one.
