Saina Nehwal bags Australian Open Super Series 2016; Defeats Sun Yu- In Sydney, Saina Nehwal clinched her second Australian Open Super Series title after defeating the China’s Sun Yu player in a thrilling beautiful three-game final of the badminton tournament on Sunday. After a day, coach Vimal Kumar termed that her performance is ‘perfect’, Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal is dished out a similar show against Sun Yu to defeat the Chinese by 11-21, 21-14, 21-19 in a 72 minute thrilling match and won the Australian Open Super Series in women’s title on Sunday at the Sydney Sports Centre. Now This time it is her second Australian Open to win this cup and with this she is the World’s No. 8th has managed to claim her maiden title this season.

Sania is lifting up the trophy around after 2 years, because she became the first shuttler to win the Australian Open for the second time. This was Saina’s first final after she lost with Li Xuerui in China in the last November. The win was also rapidly improves her chances for a second consecutive podium finish at the Rio Olympics 2016. Saina had an impressive score 5-1 record prior to the final, with their last encounter taking place in China last year only. On Sunday, the Indian only took the lead further with a wonderful display in the second and third game.

Saina, the London Olympic Games bronze medallist, who had beaten two world champions – Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon (2013) and China’s Yihan Wang (2011) in the quarter finals and semi-finals – thus clinched her maiden title of the season and pocketed a cheque of $56,250. Saina had already defeated Sun five times in the last five outings but now she faced a tough challenge against the 22-year-old Chinese Sun Yu, who took just 18 minutes to wrap up the opening game at the Sydney Olympic Park.

Sun Yu smashed out a fast-paced game, which Saina Nehwal failed to break it initially. The Indian struggled with the length of the shuttle and committed some more few unforced errors early also as the duo moved together till the score 4-4.
